A killer kids:dads ratio today for 40 minutes of chaos in the mud. Warmups, piggy back relays, kid curls, but mostly a hybrid Easter Egg Hunt meets Capture the Flag – first in the mud by the pavilion, then in the mud on the baseball field. Cobains to the grounds keeper.

We named 11 kids today, and I think we did ok!

Props to all the dads out there, whether it’s at an event like this, or activities elsewhere, or chilling at home. Today is a gift, so let’s be present in their lives.

12 PAX gathered at Marla Dorrel Park for a self-indulgent retrospective of my 36th year. We started with a pledge under a moon halo, which I don’t think I’ve ever seen before! We kicked off with 36 Merkins and headed into the park. Quick warm up in the back lot followed by our first of 10 sets of 100s. 100s was a major motif, since I finished a 1000 mile year for my only time ever last December. We did a pearls on a string back to MacDonald Woods consisting of more sets of 100s, Nolan Ryans (Mets had a huge year, did a bunch of Bulls games over the summer, and coached t-ball for the first time), and Superman Bananas (popular at F3 Del Mar, posted DR in January) on the bridge.

At the park, we partnered up and did rounds of Derkins, Crabcakes and Pickle pounders (celebrating the Downtown Cary Park, my favorite place to hang out). Pearls on the string back to the flag with more sets of 100s and a couple of sets of Mary exercises along the way. The first chunk were

I had wanted (but failed) to include something commemorating my family going to see the Eclipse in Indiana back in April… so the Moon Halo was a nice gift at the beginning.

The playlist consisted of a few bands that I got to see in concert this year + two songs that captured the moment. The Wedding’s Misery Loves Company hits with “I feel sick, it’s something I can’t shake”, and boy was that the anthem of some moments with our kids this year. Homecoming on the other hand, this was the anthem of our summer. My brother-in-law got married this year, and that was their song. Definitely captured that celebratory season.

Thanks to Grisham for the coffee. We agreed that Dowry took half of it on his way out.

Reiterating my apologies for doing that exercise during that song. Don’t tell my wife. Do tell Astro though.

Had to dust off my Q shoes after taking a few months for the start of Culture Week. After a nice 1 mile warm-up EC with @Hallmark, I was worried that no one else was going to show, but luckily 13 PAX in total enjoyed the first day of AO’s after the clock change and on the eve of Election Day, we did an Electoral College workout. Below is the complete break down of the workout. It was a tight race with Augmented/Amway and Hallmark/Bing tying and having to go to a run off. Hallmark and Bing pulled a stunning upset by beating the A&A duo. Don’t forget to vote tomorrow!

Nice, cool morning at the region’s lone dark sky AO. Two Site Qs and the workout Q for the second best 1 mile EC in the region.

We started by taking a few steps off the sidewalk for warmup circle. Then, noting that some in attendance had never done the famed 1 mile JIU EC, I decided to show them the route. Seeing both billionaire homes and sheep.

Then on to the back lot for a local partner Dora with merkins, squats and LBCs. 100, 200, 300…must complete all of one before doing the next exercise. One partner does the exercise while the other does a plank hold, squat hold or 6 inch hold. Recovery sheep loop to follow. Then mini local Dora with 50,100,150 of diamond merkins, lunges and H2M.

Back to the flag for mary including the new exercises I created, the Marge to Homer, and the rarely called one fifties.

Lots of questions from Snip at coffeeteria on power for VP Spade. Good political chatter on the voting amendment and Michelle Morrow. Vote yes for the parks bond to make Amway mad.

7+ for a stonecutters style workout replete with hidden messages and unanswerable questions. After a lap and brief warmup we moved on to the Thang. Run to a corner, do reps of an exercise, return to the middle for 7 star jumps, repeat on the other 3 corners. Repeat counts were 19, 20, 15, 14, 5 which French Lick figured out spelled STONE. Exercises were Gas pumps (by the CircleK), Overhead claps, Alabama asskickers, and Turkish getups (which everyone realized spelled GOAT). We actually skipped the final round in order to get to the trivia questions which were intended to be a mix of impossibly arcane and just plain unanswerable. We ran or flying nun’d from corner to corner based upon the whims of the Q. Questions:
1. Why was Stonehenge created? The pax got this wrong.
2. What structure won the “Supreme Award” at the Institute of Structural Engineers annual Structural Awards in 2010? Though there was an attempt, the pax were unfamiliar with the Stonecutters bridge in Hong Kong.
3. What does the Latin phrase “Novus Ordo Seclorum” mean? French Lick nailed the translation of this phrase found under the pyramid on the dollar bill: New order of the ages
4. Which came first, the chicken or the egg? The pax got this wrong too.

Mary included LBCs and CFH2M (held awkwardly long in order to give a show to OTW and TP who joined from the premiere Thursday AO).

One would expect and flawlessly-run Q from a guy who has now Q’d 60 times since the launch of South Cary. The hecklers were out in full force today but the Q was unshaken and of course rock solid.

After a quick warmup in a neighborhood where some guy clearly thought we looked suspicious, we ventured into what was described as “the edge of Holly Springs” where we proceeded to work our way back by inflating some BLIMPS at each light pole.

Then we got back to HT and partnered up for some running around the building and bear crawling and deflating those BLIMPS. For that, we ended right where we started which could not have been planned any better. You’re welcome.

Then we did a bear crawl and tuck jump thang. Then back to the flag for a round of “last man merkining”. A few guys started late but Bayonne still managed to use his old man strength to out-merkin everyone.

Lots of announcements (check Slack), including a meta-announcement from Term Paper to watch out for an upcoming announcement for DDD in the next 30 days. Always a great time fellas. MIAGD.
