On May 6, 1527 Spanish and German imperial troops sacked Rome, ending the Renaissance. Since TikTok tells us the average man thinks about the Roman Empire at least daily, what better way to commemorate such a significant, yet tragic occasion.

We began with the march towards Rome, a running loop around the block. The obligatory South Cary stretches were incorporated as you can’t sack a city with cramped calves. On the way home, we stopped for some rock work to build our strength.

Upon our return, a four corners with 15 Flame Throwing Burpees against the mighty city walls, climbing Mt. Olympus 27 Mountain Climbers (just go with it), down the hole 15 CDDs, and crush their spirits 27 jump squats.

Charge Palatine hill 4x in a brave attempt to take the city, and then some themed Mary — Discipline Bear Holds, Roman Shield Lock Plank Shoulder Taps, Rubble Twists, last stand hollow hold. We finished with what else but Warrior yoga cool downs.

Sic transit gloria mundi. Don’t take for granted the gifts showered down on us from our Creator, the beauty of everything given to us on this Earth, and the time we have with loved ones. Even the mighty and glorious Roman Empire fell. So someday shall we all.

We walked.
Actually, I was a little surprised by the number of PAX who turned out to simply walk. In fact, many folks said they posted specifically because we were simply walking.
Food for thought.
So, we walked. We traveled from Ritter Park to Hemlock Bluffs. I am happy I listened to the wise counsel of the PAX who suggested we go in the park. Suck it Apex! In the park, we spent precious distance time doing squats but at the end of the day, a new distance record was set so all is well. I called “Have a nice day” at 5:59 AM and I think we logged a tick or two over 2.5 miles. I suppose I need to remind the PAX that I’m not dead yet as folks stepped up to eulogize me during announcements. Again, I suppose, food for thought.
Thank you everyone for coming out this morning. As it appears there is a desire for this kind of workout, I suspect it will come around again.

We made it a great morning at Stonecutters today where we celebrated earth week and those that genuinely like to hug trees and furry things. The fellas had different ideas on how to stop global warming and save our world. But the consensus seemed to be: eat less, which in turn reduces farting and other gas emissions, nutrient degradation, toilet paper, baby wipes and landfill space, methane production and the endless flushing and drainage of water down the pipes and running off our lawns, which in turn saves us from the next unplanned close up view of the dark side of Kevin the Elder’s strangely proud moon. 5 PAX set out in head to head competition with the rival workout group at Walnut Street Park. Things got ugly real quick with the nunchucks and battle axes coming out.

Just kidding, us nerds celebrated National Tax Day. Mosey, warmups, and then tax trivia courtesy of the IRS. The PAX had to work together to answer each question. They were threatened with a penalty Motivator at the end, but each answer they got correct earned them a reduction from the starting point of 10 on the Motivator count. They soon figured out this tax trivia was IRS propaganda and the correct answer aligned with the most “favorable” answer, which helped.
The PAX fared well, but still couldn’t deduce how many cocoa beans a rabbit cost in ancient Aztec culture.
We ended with 2 on the Motivators count.
Oh yeah, we did some running and exercises as well.

Three PAX for an early morning A.S.S. Prep. As advertised, we took the long way ’round and found ourselves at the Waffle House. We let them know next Tuesday may be a touch different and they were all like “bring it!”. Conversation around the table drifted toward best strategies for eating quickly, counting booths, and what songs should play on the jukebox.

9 gathered at the Thursday’s most baseball-friendly AO (we had to go over a mile to find a field the last time I did this!!) for a no-running, high intensity workout to usher in the baseball season. Shh, shh, the Tokyo Series wasn’t the real start.

We pledged and walked to the National Anthem to gather some coupons for our workout. As we got to the field for our thangs, the rest of the baseball playlist kicked in. Let’s get this party started.

Warmups at Home Plate. That was nice.

THANG 1 – the Vicious Circle… on the Diamond. The PAX grab a coupon and start circling the bases. One at a time, the PAX in the back does 5 burpees at the pitching rubber. Get to the front of the pack to set the pace and repeato until everyone has gone. Do it again, but with Squats at the pitching rubber. Circle of block stuff at home, then put back the coupons.

THANG 2 – Walk to the Other Field. Round of inflating METS around the bases because duh. 10 Merkins – 10 E2k – 10 Travoltas – 10 Squats. Deflate them back around, gather up the ‘bats’ and head back to the flag.

THANG 3 – quick Jack Webbs on the baseball, rotating the bats around. Just a quick couple rounds and we’re on to COT.

COT at the flag! Rejoined with our rucker, and we reviewed announcements (All Star Special 5K on 4/8, SotC at SWW 4/18, Highland Games 4/19, Picnic 4/27). Prayed for former coworkers, our sons, and Petey. Happy Opening Day everyone and LETS GO METS!!
