Solid discussion about the lack of challenge modern people have in certain areas of their lives. Us F3 folks do a pretty good job of embracing physical challenges. But what about embracing other challenges like relational, emotional, parental, etc.? I know I need to do better in some of those areas and dig in more. Do you?

Wow! What a beautiful morning! TY to God and to the PAX for a great adventure over to the Birkhaven Hill. For some, it was the first time up the beast of that hill, but the beast was conquered, twice! Along the way there and back, we did mostly ab / core exercises with various PAX leading. Strong work, brothers!

The Rocky Balboa movie clip when Rocky speaks to his son about- ‘no body can hit you as hard as life-it’s not about how hard you can hit, it’s about how much you can get hit and keep moving forward’. We shared some hard knock stories about pain, loss, recovery, training and finally victory. On a personal note, it was truly a wonderful pleasure being with F3 guys on my birthday. Im blessed by the support and fellowship we have in this united family of early morning warriors. Thank you to all the men who by their encouragement and persistent challenges for me to become better, i am more alive, more alert and prepared for tomorrow.

9 Bootcampers and 6 Accelerators were out this morning. After Pledge we moseyed onto greenway for a partial neighborhood tour. We made 1st stop at cul-de-sac for warmups and then were back on the greenway to make our way over to the Thang: Triple Nickel w/ Merkins on the hill where YHC grew up. We then moseyed our way back to the flag with some Pearls on a String along the way just in time to squeeze a few extra Merkins in.

The PAX felt inspired to call several audibles along the way which YHC obliged. Fruit Loop gave his seal of approval of the tour. Great fellowship this morning fellas.

Have you ever crumbled under pressure? Do you feel that you have ever disappointed God? Today we walked through the story of Peter after being a faithful disciple alongside Jesus for two years, Peter finds himself denying that he even knows him. Only days later, Jesus resurrected, walked on water over to Peter‘s boat. Can you imagine the regret that Peter was feeling? However, instead of Jesus‘s disappointment with Peter, he recommissioned him and gives Peter grace! Today was a reminder that each of us can stumble, but God will always be there for us!

Robust group of HIMs this morning, including 3 from peak city (one of whom identifies as Carpex) to discuss marriage and being a good partner for your wife.

After a masterful preamble talking about the ways we are partner and the 5 love languages, things got controversial. A certain pax refused to weigh-in on ways he is a good partner because “it’s not a partnership, it’s a union”. After some back and forth we determined that it was somewhat semantics and that Union does not start with P, so partnership would be the framework…or else that pax was welcome to leave!

Good discussion ensued with many pax bringing positive contributions. Couple takeaways:
-leverage synergies – our strengths and weaknesses are not our M’s. That’s a good thing.
-show appreciation and gratitude for what your M does for you and your family
-learn your M and how she receives love and show it in that way
-communication is key
-quality time is important
-set yourself up for a good marriage after the kids are gone from the house
-do regular “check-ins” so you can get laid

We discussed the responsibility of being the protector of our M and household.

4 PAX shared how they interpret that responsibility and the approaches were varied.

Living in Cary, NC reduces probability of violent crimes in general, but protection spans a lot territory such 5 star crash test protection, fire safety, etc.

YHC shared experience as a combat sports competitor, coach (intramural and private) including tactical training (armed and hand-to-hand)

We all agreed that situational awareness trumps all techniques and training. But also if you do train, your threat response will be more proportional to the situation. In other words, if you only know pew pew, you are prone to shoot when threatened, whereas if you are trained with other methods, you will have non-lethal options. YHC believes it’s good to have those skills, even a little.

Be a hard target – make damn sure to teach the M and 2.0s the same.

I have researched enough bad guys to know what they look for.

SACRIFICE, differentiating between “self” and doing it out of love for others; how sacrifice relates to core male values; how the concept or meaning of it changes over course one’s life, different stages; societal/familial/personal obstacles for men to be better at sacrifice…..all present engaged, sharing. We discussed charity – an act of giving (time treasure talent), why we do it, how to teach and model it for our children, and wrestled with the questions of if all giving is charity, if the distinction is the worthiness of the recipient, and if so, what makes it worthy?

The group drew on stories of Cain’s sacrifice and the Jewish idea of “Tikkun Olam” which means “healing the world”

We talked about prayer being a dialgue rather than a monologue.

Noise is factor for all – yet we still need to practice. Anything you practice, you get better at.

One thing YHC heard in the noise this week was, “Be still, and know that I am God.”
