A robust group of 8 JIU regulars gathered this morning amidst the sheep and luxury homes. At 0530 confusion abounded as no one knew who would be the fitness leader for the day. Then, in a shock to everyone, the YHC Astro presented himself as the Q and welcomed the Pax to AKOA WEEK.

We moseyed and warmed up and then on to thang 1. Four corners around the sheep loop with stifler’s moms, cat scratch fever, stingray merkins and Marge to homers. 10, 15, and 10 reps for the three rounds. It was noted that these exercises from last year were fairly hump-centric.

3 PAX covered ground around Regency today. Warm ups, and the standard Regency loop, with Mary and stretching at the end. Quality mumblechatter, solving many problems of the world – work, marriage, kids, the golden years, and related items.

4 for a non-:turtle: EC down to Kildare and back. An additional 30 gathered for a New Year’s Day Region-Anniversary Site-Launch extravaganza! We had an FNG, so we stumbled through the mission and core principles on the way to a FOLLOW ME around the small pickle to the dock for warmups. The PAX counted off by 1s and 2s and we headed for the rock pile.

Kitty Litter kept the 1s for rock work and Jigglypuff took the 2s for 7s on the hill. We flipflop’d after 10 minutes and repeato’d. Reconvene to put the rocks back and mosey to the flags.

At the flags, Mary consisting of the exercises created by the PAX last year – the M2H, Stingray Merkins, Stifler’s Mom, and CFH2M. Serious thanks to OTW for breaking up the motif – maybe we can explore a different part of the body this year.

COT where we named FNG Bruce ‘DeVito’ since he is the self-proclaimed shortest of his brothers. Hope to see him out again soon!

Prayers lifted up for Jerry’s family and for the new babies in our region (Brie spoken, Renfield unspoken). Huge praises for 2025 and our region – what a privilege to be a part of this and push to make each other better every day.

The HIMs at Shepherd’s Watch are so strong, they know how to start the pledge without a Q! Fortunately, the pledge finished with 13 PAX and then we got after it

Warm-ups near the soccer fields and then to the other end of the parking lot for 5 penalty burpees.

Thang 1 in the church courtyard with 5, 10, 15, 20 reps of various exercises alternating between arms and legs.
Thang 2 in the east lot with 5 stations, 5 very obvious and clearly communicated stations.

Back to the flag for 2 minutes of plank hold

Today’s theme was JOY. True Joy is not an emotion based on exterior circumstances, but based on what Jesus did for us on the cross. This is the reason we celebrate Christmas and give gifts, to remember that Jesus offers each of us the ultimate gift.

Six PAX ventured down Ederlee to Penny and back. Starting at the Chiesi entrance with warmups and quality mumble chatter, then 19 light poles – starting with Merkins from 1 to 10, increment by 1 at each pole, and decrement by 1 after the 10th pole back down to 1. Turn around and come back with Squats.

Small set of 2’s into The Estates, back to the flag for an on-time wrap up.

‘Twas a salted caramel enhanced (for some) coffee-12 days of Christmas-pumpkin pickle-white board workout. Of course FrenchLickNick won the best pumpkin award for fastest PAX. A from Thoreau we heard that “It’s not enough to be busy; so are the ants. The question is: what are we busy about?” The challenge was to reflect on that as we finish out the year.

Toy Drive Report: LOW STEAM. We need toys. Toys Collected at my last 3 posts = ZERO. Have had a few porch deliveries. Lotsa promises. But we’re near the end. 2 more days to contribute and 3 ways to hand off. Look for….

The rain dome didn’t stand a chance today. Warmup loop around the sheep and past a perfectly fine looking shelter. We did our warmup exercises next to the shelter, which included hand release merkins and LBC’s.

Took a left out of the parking on Penny Rd and went to the end of the sidewalk for some Amway originals, namely the Al Gore jump squat and the American sledgehammer.

We then proceeded to run on the sketchy part of Penny with no sidewalk past the first development and all the way to Dutchman, which I’m not sure has ever been done before. We found a cul de sac in Dutchman where we did a round of 7’s with world’s worst merkins on one end and L/R WWI’s on the other. Then we did an Indian run in a direction the pax were not happy about, and came to a dead end where everyone gasped in horror as they did not know how we’d get back. But alas, the Q had already scouted this route and showed them a beautiful cut through path, after which we did some Superman’s and got back to the flag with a few seconds to spare. 3.5 miles covered. The cinnamon vanilla coffee never tasted so good. MIAGD.

13 PAX showed up for a frigid morning boot camp.

Quick mosey and standard warmups with SSH, Imperial Walkers, Hillbillies, Merkins, and stretches. After that, the goal was to keep moving and stay warm.

Thang 2: 11s with Burpees and Bonnie Blairs
Thang 3: Wind sprints

Returned to the flag on time for COT. Announcements include cigar lounge tomorrow night (#wellness channel approved because you don’t inhale…), world’s greatest Maynard this Saturday at 0600, and Christmas Party Dec 19 (sign up!). Prayers mostly unspoken. (Sherpa still trying to make weight after his Nepal trip, spending lots of time on the throne)

Today, the pax gathered to celebrate a long-awaited Black Friday beatdown, where we could finally celebrate our love of retail shopping and unfettered capitalism and do so right in everyone’s face. Mosey to the nearby office park to show our appreciation to the our cubicle-bound brethren for an abbreviated warm up. Included the traditional merkins-plank jacks-mountain climbers combo, as a hat tip to brother Oofta who surely would not appreciate the unrestrained and unplanned-for expenditure of cash that was soon to follow.
Mosey to that great center of commerce, Walmart store #2247. Split pax into 2 teams and begin a set of zig-zaggy B.O.M.B.S., since Black Friday shopping is the bomb. Observe the queue of competitor shoppers lined up outside of Walmart, waiting for the 6:00 AM rope-drop. At 6:00 AM, halt the pax and announce the newest addition to the Exicon, The Doorbuster. 2 pax from each team take the cash so carefully stored in YHC’s socks, sprint across the parking lot and into Walmart, while the remainder of the team continues with increasing-count B.O.M.B.S. Secret Shopper Pax are to purchase 1 toy that fits the list of next week’s toy drive (see #announcements by HGTV), as fast as possible. Finish checking out, don’t get punched in the face by the aggressive flatscreen TV crowd, refuse to show the receipt to the elderly security personnel, and sprint back across the parking lot to rejoin the pax; flapjack and next 2 pax enter the store for more unabashed retail purchasing. While completing the B.O.M.B.S. and waiting for all pax to complete their shopping, don’t let the Walmart shopping bags touch the ground, or the Tax Man cometh. When all pax have returned with their purchases, we give thanks for the opportunity to participate in these joyful transactions, and mosey on. Quick stop at Radiant Waxing (“from bush to tush”) for some monkey humpers, then mosey back to Ritter. 1 stop for a surprise minute of Burpee Beatdown, then to the flag for abbreviated Mary; having now completed our Black Friday purchases and moved toward Giving Tuesday, the pax were Given the opportunity to lead Mary. Announcements, prayers and praises for a safe and peaceful Thanksgiving and for the many of us navigating the challenges that extended family can entail. YHC took us out.
